Interactions of high temperature H2S and HCl cleaning sorbents with biosyngas main components and testing in a pilot integrated biomass gasifier SOFC system

High temperature biosyngas cleaning is more efficient when the end user operates at elevated temperature, as in biomass gasifier solid oxide fuel cell systems. However, there not much experience with this technology and low gas usually adopted. This paper advances current knowledge by presenting results from investigation of side reactions catalysed commercially available sorbents involving main components, obtained pilot plant developed within Horizon2020 project “Flexifuel-SOFC”. K2CO3, used for HCl removal, appeared catalytically active towards water shift reaction. Under conditions representative a real system, residence time was sufficient composition to reach thermodynamic equilibrium. ZnO–CuO, H2S showed catalytic activity significantly higher. Both seemed methanation The tests confirmed occurrence WGS reaction removal reactor. decreased below target value 1 ppmv 5 HCl. heat released these should be carefully considered design phase high units.
